OPTIMIZING SOUTH AMERICAN TRADE
-
COPIAPORT-E's strategic position near the hinterland accesses includes two main roads crossing the border from Argentina to Chile: the San Francisco and Pircas Negras Passes.
These routes, with low gradients of 2-3%, are often referred to as the "Dry Panama Channels" of South America. They enhance the trade of goods and commodities between the Atlantic and Pacific regions, positioning COPIAPORT-E as a crucial node in this network.
-
In the port project's influence region—Argentina, Paraguay, mid-west, and southern Brazil—there are agriculturally rich lands with limited export logistics. Current ports in Argentina, with drafts of only 9-10 meters, face expansion limitations and require constant dredging. Official projections indicate a deficit of 4 to 7 thousand tons per hour by 2027.
To counter this, Argentina has executed trade and investment agreements to develop new logistic solutions through the ZICOSUR and ATACALAR bi-oceanic corridors.
COPIAPORT-E offers a definitive, long-term solution by offering a new gateway for exports of extra-large quantities of grain to Asia while cutting transportation time.
This frees capacities in Argentine ports offering the opportunity to increase exports to Europe, Middle East and Africa. A win-win situation for all involved parties.
As a 100% privately owned port, free from tariff regulations, government associations, or worker unions, we embody the characteristics essential for a truly efficient port.
-
COPIAPORT-E has made significant strides in northwest Argentina, securing non-binding preliminary agreements for 10 million tons per year (MTPY) of grains with various parties.
We continue to explore opportunities across the region, building strong relationships with the Atacalar and Cordoba provinces in Argentina.
As we advance the project, we aim to convert these preliminary agreements into binding contracts and engage with new producers, solidifying COPIAPORT-E’s role as a transformative logistics solution.
-
A comprehensive marketing effort will target South and Center-west Brazil, South and Southwest Paraguay, and Argentina.
COPIAPORT-E is the ideal Pacific landing port for goods shipped via the Bi-Oceanic Corridor.
The port will be built in phases to maximize return on investment and maintain full operating capacity.
The first phase, focusing on grain operations, will feature a 15 MTPY terminal capable of handling Capesize vessels.
-
The initial phase anticipates a 44% Internal Rate of Return (IRR), an exceptional figure for infrastructure projects, attributed to low capital expenditure (due to the peninsula) and high tariff potential. After payback, the port can self-finance its expansion.
COPIAPORT-E aligns with China's strategy to diversify its food supply logistics and supports the Belt and Road Initiative.
